Daniel’s Keys is named in honor of Daniel Allen who passed away in 2019 at the age of 27. In the words of the many who knew him, Daniel was the kindest person they have ever known. He cared deeply for others, and was always the one his friends would reach out to for help in their times of need. His compassion extended past family and friends to neighbors, teachers, college professors, co-workers, and many others.
.
Daniel had an uncanny ability to lift people’s spirits just by being present. The mood shifted whenever he entered the room, as if a light had suddenly been turned on. Daniel also had a playful sense of humor, and is known for his unmistakable laughter. His unassuming manner only enhanced his charm, and others simply adored him. This includes his many friends and, in particular, his close-knit family – his mother, his father, and his ‘big sister’, Katharine.
.
Daniel loved being in the out of doors, especially hiking through the mountains with friends or simply spending time in nature. He enjoyed traveling with family and friends as well, and had the opportunity to visit many beautiful and interesting places. His favorite places seemed to be where kindness abounded and the scene was filled with the beauty of nature. It should come as no surprise that Aukland, New Zealand and Ireland topped his list.
.
Daniel was also an exceptionally gifted musician, graduating with his Bachelor’s Degree in guitar performance from Belmont University in Nashville where he remained for a while, spending time writing songs, performing, and recording music. In addition to guitar, Daniel was a talented vocalist, keyboardist, bassist, and lap steel guitar player.
.
Although Daniel continued to enjoy creating music, he decided to embark on a new career, that of becoming a school psychologist. It was while he was working on his graduate degree at the Citadel in Charleston, SC that he passed away.
The world shifted that day and will never be the same. There’s no doubt that Daniel would have been an excellent school psychologist due to his compassionate nature and deep concern for others.
.
Now, we are honoring Daniel by following his lead. We seek to spread his inherent kindness through our “Keys to Kindness” initiative.
.
Daniel’s kindness has touched many lives, and those who’ve had the good fortune of knowing him will be forever changed for the better. His light continues to shine, and will forever. Please join us in our efforts to make the world a better place by following Daniel’s lead.
